Hilton Parma Community Council of Churches - PGUCC provided food and gifts for 19 families (5 seniors, 34 adults, 26 children, and many pets to help those families have a blessed and happy Christmas. Thanks to all who donated gifts, food, and money.
Red Cross Blood Drive – We sponsored a blood drive in April of this year.
Salem Nutrition Center- Our volunteers serve lunch to the guests at Salem on the 2nd and 5th Mondays each month. We promised to collect 50 pairs of men’s socks to the guests as part of their Christmas gifts and delivered 70 pairs. Any extras were put in the appropriate Christmas baskets.
Thanksgiving Baskets - 60 baskets were given out to families in the Hilton area, which our donations helped to fill.
Wider Church Missions:
CARE 5000 Kits – We assisted other UCC churches in collecting personal hygiene items. We pledged 100 kits and delivered 101! 1,180 kits were distributed to 10 different organizations
Church World Service School Kits – We collected 21 complete school supply kits for children in impoverished schools, refugee camps, or other difficult situations. Any extra items went to the Hilton Parma Emergency Food Shelf to help those families that could not afford to purchase the basic supplies.
National Kidney Foundation – The Board has made the recommendation for the pop tab collection to go to the National Kidney Foundation as an alternative to the Ronald McDonald House.
Labels for Education - This is a fun and easy program where families and members of the community work together towards a common goal — “Earn Free Stuff” for their school! These are contributed to Hillside Children’s Center.
New York Christian Conference - Each year a small group of representatives from area churches meet. This year we received $401.25 for attending this gathering. This year we recommended these funds go to the Coalition for Migrant Workers.
Pennies For People - Any church that collects "Pennies for People" can nominate deserving organizations to get funding grants. These grants are for non-profits that do not receive government grants and may "fall through the cracks" as far as funding is concerned.
In 2014, our congregation contributed to:
1. One Great Hour of Sharing
2. Strengthen the Church
3. Neighbors in Need
4. Christmas Fund
5. Our Church’s Wider Mission
A "5-for-5 congregation" is one that gives to Our Church's Wider Mission (OCWM) through its church budget, while also providing parishioners the opportunity to participate in each of OCWM's four special mission offerings received during the year—One Great Hour of Sharing, Neighbors in Need, Strengthen the Church and the Christmas Fund. Of the over 270 churches in the New York Conference of the UCC, about 30% (in 2012) are "5 for 5" churches. Parma Greece UCC is proud to be a longtime “5 For 5 congregation".
